Calgary Wedding Flowers | Bouquet Tips

Read along as Sweet Bloom shares design secrets for everyday bouquets!

A quick stop to grab groceries often takes you through the supermarket floral department. The bright colours and delicate scents persuade you. They are relatively inexpensive bouquets, a quick grab, and an easy way to send messages of love, thoughtfulness and thanks. BUT… do you ever struggle to place them into a vase and have them look nicely arranged? The blooms flop to one side, evidence of large gaps appear, lack of greenery makes the bouquet sparse….and ultimately they do not look as attractive as you had hoped. If this sounds like an experience you had then read on for some of my design tips.

Here are a few tricks to make the blooms bright and attractive:

1. Separate each bloom type and display as small clusters. I love reusing small glass bottles or jars for this look.

2. Arrange all the blooms as if you were designing a bridal bouquet. Once complete add twine or ribbon to secure, cut stems to one length, and place in a vase. This will maintain the shape and display beautifully.

3. Cut fresh greenery from your own garden to fill in the spaces.

* Most importantly, love the design you create as every artist has their own eye for beauty*

I hope your next bouquet is everything you hoped it would be!

As an individual and business owner in Calgary, Alberta there are endless opportunities to support and connect with local companies. When I first started Sweet Bloom I knew I wanted to develop a commitment with other small business owners who are local and Canadian. I feel this connection supports the citizens within our city and our nation. Today, I am so excited to be stepping out into the community and uniting with individuals that uphold a high quality of customer service, provide locally sourced items, and give back to the community they are part of. This is just one small part that makes the Sweet Bloom experience unique.

My favourite part of being the lead designer of Sweet Bloom is the ability to explore and choose all the design elements. When designing for Anne and Rej’s summer 2014 wedding, the vintage theme was evident in all aspects of the bride’s planning. She hoped to have a bridal bouquet that reflected a vintage feel and was unique to her personal taste. I selected garden roses in soft pink and white accented with eryngium. These beautiful, delicate, peony structured roses offered a perfect match for the vintage theme. The bouquet was accented with white wax flower and seeded eucalyptus to complete the design.

Calgary Wedding Flowers | First Bloom I Loved:

I share my favourite bloom from childhood.

The first bloom that ever caught my eye and stayed in my heart is the Tulip. My dad always had clusters of tulip bulbs planted in hopes for their beauty to show in early spring. It is always the first bloom to brighten my garden and bring the hope that winter is nearly over. It truly is a very unique, simple bloom that signals the beginning of spring, brings colour to a new season, and makes me smile every time I see it. Still to this day, despite all the beautiful flowers I design with, the tulip is my favourite flower to have in my home. Even at 35 years old, my dad and husband often surprise me with fresh-cut tulips! Tulips bring back fond memories of my childhood and make me feel like a little girl!
